I have been an EA Member since 1992.
I feel it is imperative that “GOD” is not replaced with the word “High Power”.
God is the key to healing and is a spiritual word not a religious word.
“God, as we understand him” is still “GOD”, an essential element in the healing process of individuals following the 12-step groups.
If “GOD” is removed altogether from the EA 12-step program, the program no longer exists as a 12-step program .
I have been in the program for over 25 years and feel strongly that this decision was made by EA International without concern for its members
I am wondering if EA Int’l was bullied by those who fear the word “God” or “Him” and are simply “caving in” to pressure imposed by these individuals.
If such is the case, then LET THOSE PEOPLE who are unwilling or uncomfortable using the word “GOD” USE THE WORD MOST AGREEABLE TO THEM.
I have benefited from the EA program, specifically by cultivating a relationship with God, through prayer and meditation, “to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying for the knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.” Step 11 Isn’t that what we are supposed to do?
I fear – if EA continues to “water down” this EA program by substituting Higher Power for God, this program will no longer be effective.
EA International needs to do a group conscience vote to all EA group (members) world-wide, on this matter before making changes of this nature.

i agree with you Val. this topic has been rattling around for almost a year. the trouble is not many people found out about for quite a while. i learned when a local person was part of the EA International board and participated in the vote, he said there were 4? people voting... not sure i remember that right... still i agree with a group conscious .

Thank you for your response and support. I feel it necessary to get this information out to all members of EA. There was a time when EA International sent copies of the EA Connection magazine by email to groups. Our EA Wednesday afternoon Calgary, Alberta meeting has not received an email from them for over a year. Hence we were unaware of their changes. It appears to me that EA International assumed EA members would obtain monthly EA connections as they were submitted, but no one in our EA group accessed this "magazine" since it stopped being automatically delivered to my email address. Please make EA International aware of your concerns and pass these changes to any EA member that crosses your path. Thank you again. Yours in recovery, Val M St Luke's EA Group, Calgary, AB, Canada

I've been in EA at least 8 yrs. Al-anon 34. And I've never seen leaders behave with such hubris.
Just for the record, in our group members come from various religions. We don't know the specifics of most of them but the Hindu says he prefers "God".

I've been an EA member for around 25 years and strongly oppose this new direction and wording. I suggest we ask prior board members to replace these people, who don't seem to know the EA program.
