Hi, Friends, Last night we had a full room at our meeting and 1/3 of them were new! Another 1/3 were newISH, let's say they've been coming 2 months or less. Of the 3 of us left who are qualified to sponsor, one is an extremely successful businessman whose loyalty we are extremely grateful for. He serves as our literature person but doesn't sponsor folks. Another has been in the program for many years but has their own issues and I observe that folks just don't approach them to sponsor.
If you're still with me you've noticed that I am the only one left qualified to sponsor. I feel like I'm full up with sponsees. 2 of my female sponsees have been with us several months. They're both quite promising but are only approaching their Step 5. I'm REALLY trying to nurture them to become sponsors and believe that once we've made it through the other 8 steps together they'll be great resources for the group.
I came to EA 8 or 9 yrs. ago and LOVE it. I do all I can to nurture our little group as the publicity person. But I have my own extreme life stresses and can't do it all. Last night a young man asked if I'd be his sponsor. I felt a little panicky since this 34 year Al-anon is still prone to overdue in the "Helping Others" arena. I knew that he's been in AA a month-and-a-half and has an AA sponsor so I suggested that maybe he and I could talk every couple of weeks.
Have I over-shared here? Bottom Line: What creative ideas do y'all have regarding an extreme need for sponsors in EA? I won't be offended if you point to EA literature. I'm not as faithful to that as I might be.
Love to all of what one of our members affectionately calls "My Crazies"!!

Hi Carol,
I don't think you have over-shared at all. That was a great post and an important question. In addition to face to face meetings, I think some people get sponsors online on the Loop. Some might also find sponsors through EA Chat, and maybe there is more EA can do to facilitate matching sponsors with sponsees. Maybe there are other creative ideas out there?
It's really exciting that your group is attracting new members! I wonder if you can also share what you do to encourage that to happen? Maybe start a new thread? My f2f group is really struggling with membership right now. I am looking for ideas on how to support the group and grow its membership.
It is also the case in my group that we only have one person who is sponsoring people. This seems like an important issue for EA.
Thanks again for your posts!
